How do Internet providers respond to coronavirus crisis?

With ADSL usage ongoing increase due to work-from-home and remote learning measures, internet providers in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications raised Internet bandwidth of fixed broadband by 20%.

The move aims to support students learning at home, which has added pressure on ADSL usage nationwide.

Daily News Egypt compares ADSL packages of Egypt’s four companies: WE, Vodafone, Orange, and Etisalat.

WE:

The company offers new 30Mbps Super Package, with a quota of 140GB for EGP 120, 250GB for EGP 210, or 600GB for EGP 500.

The Mega package includes faster speed of 70Mbps and download quota of 250GB for EGP 310; while the Ultra package gives users 100Mbps speed and 250GB download quota for EGP 410, or 600GB for EGP 700.

If the quota is fully consumed, the speed drops to 256Kbps, but can be topped up for EGP 30-100.

Orange:

Orange has launched a 50% discount on internet packages for a period of 6 months, and is now providing routers for EGP 5 per month.

Orange Internet packages come in two speeds, 30Mbps and 100Mbps, with different download quotas.

Package capacities start from 140 GB to 600 GB, with prices of EGP 75-350.

After consuming the package, the speed will decrease to 256Kbps, and the customer can charge an additional balance for the package at EGP 1.5 per 1GB.

Etisalat:

Etisalat offers packages ranging from EGP 120 to EGP 410 and speeds starting from 30Mbps to 100Mbps.

The company set the prices of additional packages at 5GB for EGP 10, 20GB for EGP 25, 1GB for EGP 1, and 100GB for EGP 100.

Vodafone:

Vodafone Egypt is offering a 25% discount on ADSL Internet packages. Vodafone offers four different packages at 30Mbps and 100Mbps. The prices for Vodafone home internet packages ranged between EGP 90-350, while the download quotas ranging between 14-600GB.
