2,376 prisoners released in celebration of Eid Al-Adaha

The Ministry of the Interior announced 2,376 prisoners, including 627 debt defaulters were released through Tahia Misr Fund and some civil society organizations.
The pardon came upon presidential decree, and came within the initiative of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, “Prisons Without Debt Defaulters”, that was launched to help many people, particularly females, who all are imprisoned because they were not able to repay loans borrowed for family expenses.
This comes within the framework of the ministry’s keenness to uphold the values of human rights, it said, and the application of the penal code according to a modern approach and provide various aspects of care for inmates, especially in communicating with their families, according to statement.
During Eid Al-Fitr in July, 3,744 indebtors were released.
